Ladymuir Forest is a dense plantation of sitka spruce trees. Planted in the mid 1970′s for their timber value, the trees now mature enough to be harvested for paper and building materials. As you walk around Ladymuir you will notice a dramatic contrast between the dense forest plantation and the open space of the clearfelled areas. The cleared areas provide excellent hunting grounds for birds such as kestrels or hen harriers; amongst the dense sitka plantation you might hear jays or spot a roe deer.
